Census LUCA 2020 Getting Started

2020 LUCA is just around the corner. This is really important for residents of South Carolina. It is a major statewide effort from the local government level up, to capture the address locations where people reside. Why is it important? Because each address means another address to identify where people live, and that is important because based on each person, a significant amount of funding is released to state and local programs through various means including grants, programs, etc. for the next ten years. In order to make certain that everyone is counted in your jurisdiction, please participate and learn all you can about it. In past LUCA data collection efforts, significant increases in funding sent to local communities in South Carolina occured.

To get started, you can see the presentation here: 2020 LUCA - Preparing for LUCA (link updated 05/08/2017) - PSAP date changes are significant

Statewide NG911 Efforts Underway

Statewide NG911 efforts are currently underway. The state's 911 office has started a GIS working group to work with GIS components associated with 911 for the state's PSAPs. Efforts include surveys of current data status - coverage, currency, type of systems, etc. For more information on this effort, or to get involved, please contact David Morrison.

Statewide LiDAR

Project The South Carolina LiDAR Consortium is currently working on a statewide LiDAR project with the assistance of federal, state and local resources. The project began in 2007, and is nearly complete for the acquisition process. After acquisition, the LiDAR data must be QA/QC'd and approved for release by USGS. Click here for more information on the LiDAR, status, formats and download links. Click here for a quick look at the status of the available products by county.
